Hack Manon

Hack Manon

Today, I'm offering you a hack of the Manon pattern for the sunny days. Manon is the asymmetrical blouse with incredible charm. With its pretty worked sleeves, it's sure to make you fall in love! With the sunny days coming, I suggest you hack it to get short sleeves and why not even turn it into a dress! I'll explain the step-by-step to modify your pattern and make this hack!

1. The sleeves

First, you'll redefine the sleeve length. On piece number 6, starting from the underside of the armholes on each side, you'll define the future length of your sleeve. For my hack, I went with 9cm.

You will have two options for tracing your new sleeve hem:

  • Option in red: you keep the bottom line of the sleeve and its curve to obtain a sleeve that is slightly longer at the back.
  • Option in green: you draw a straight line along the bottom of the sleeve.

2. The body

Now we're going to redefine the body length. Here I suggest you do a dress hack, but you can also shorten the body to get a cropped version!

Take pieces 1 and 2. You will redefine the length you want for your dress: short, midi or maxi. To help you do this, you can take the measurement of one of your dresses from below the armholes to the bottom of the garment. You can then transfer this measurement by adding 3cm (1cm corresponding to the seam allowance under the armhole and 2cm corresponding to the need to hem the bottom of the garment).

For my hack, I lengthened the pattern by 58cm.

For the back, follow the same steps. Since the lower back is longer in the center than at the sides, you can trace the existing line.

3. Belt

What if we add a belt! To do this, cut a rectangle measuring 1.50m by 8cm. Assemble right sides together by folding this strip in half, leaving a hatch to turn it over. After turning everything over, press it down well with an iron and topstitch all around 2mm from the edges (this will allow the hatch to close)!

And to keep this belt from coming off your dress, you can add belt loops! Cut rectangles 3cm wide by 6cm high (I made 2). Overlock one side of the length only. Fold 1cm of the unoverlocked side along the entire length, then fold over the overlocked side. Topstitch 2mm on both sides to hold the belt loop.

Prepare the folds on each side of the two loops with the iron (1cm at the top and 1cm at the bottom).

Determine the position of your loops. For this hack, they were mounted on the side 19cm from below the armhole.

Stitch your loops at the top and bottom.

Your Manon blouse hack is just waiting to be made!! Don't hesitate to share it on social media!
